When does makeup expire?

According to this article posted by By Sophia Panych of Allure.com, it is recommended that you throw out your beauty products after -

Mascara - 2 to 3 months
Liquid Foundation - 6 to 12 months
Concealer (powder and stick) - up to 2 years
Concealer (liquid) - 1 year
Face powder - up to 2 years
Blush (powder) - up to 2 years
Blush (cream) - 1 year
Eye shadow - 3 months
Eye liner (liquid or pencil) - 3 months
Lipstick & Lipgloss - 1 year

Can you believe that?! I think I've kept my makeup for WAY OVER those listed times... Maybe I should change out certain items like my concealer and lipglosses... I wash my makeup brushes with gentle soap EVERY week! I guess from reading the article, her point was if the applicator is touching your face and going back into the product, it needs to be thrown out frequently. Quite frankly, I don't think I can afford makeup if I have to throw it out that often! How long do you wait before you throw your cosmetics out?

  2. Haha, a blog about.... 'and saving money' : I like this!! ^.^

Interesting article! I always keep my makeup for way too long -___- But I try to keep everything clean, so I think I can keep them for longer than the few months the article suggests.
For example with eyepencils. If you sharpen them before use, you get rid of the dirty top layer, and I don't think what's inside turns bad that quickly. And when you clean your brushes after use, I don't think there's a problem with keeping for example eye shadow a lot longer...

(Else, I have a serious problem...)

  3. yes I agree.... I keep my makeup for a very long time, especially if it is from an expensive brand like mac, urban decay or what ever.^^

and I buy not only one time per year my makeup. I like to go shopping kinda often... so I can't use all the stuff in this short time^^

  4. I don't follow these rules. Powder things stay good forever, just the creamy products go bad. Mascara... I've kept for a year, I haven't had any problems! Following x
