Review: Bella Terra Cosmetics mineral eyeshadow

Good morning beauties *waves*

I wanted to share with you the brand that got me hooked on mineral eyeshadow. Hubby and I were in Houston, TX visiting a friend in the beginning of this year, so of course, we had to go to the Houston Galleria (love this huge mall!) We were literally at the mall from morning until evening, there's just sooo many shops to look at! Of course, hubby and friend went off shopping by themselves since they did not want to go look at girlie things... One of the sales rep at one of those little make up booths got my attention. He was so cheery, and exciting. He was telling me all the features of using "mineral make up" called Bella Terra Cosmetics. Some of the benefits he listed were:

  • Made from 100% pure and natural mica, zinc and magnesium
  • No alcohol, talc, oil, additives, fillers or dyes
  • No preservatives
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties
  • Natural UVA and UVB sun protection (SPF 15)
  • Entirely animal-free and therefore cruelty-free
Of course, I was so intrigued by now, because he's swatching all these colorful eye shadows on me! He said I could dip a clear lip gloss into the mineral eyeshadow and use it as colored lip gloss; he showed me how to use it wet (dip brush into water and then dip into eyeshadow) etc... and then I asked, "how much?"
"$15 each" was his reply. I looked at him like he was crazy! Mind you, I was not an eyeshadow junkie then... We continued to talk and I finally managed to get him to sell them to me for 2 for $20. I ended up buying Verde #40 and Goldmine #29.

A couple of months later, I was back to the little kiosk for MORE! I couldn't resist the beautiful colors. I noticed that the eyeshadows had shimmer and glitter to most of them (which I love). So many good things about these. They are VERY pigmented, so you don't need alot. They stay on all day without creasing, but I always use my Urban Decay primer potion.

Ok, so the second time, I decided to buy a 9 stack. I purchased the Mother of Pearl shimmer stack, and oddly, they don't have names to them individually, so I can't ya which is which. It's eyeshadow upon eyeshadow and a lid at the very top. One thing I HATE about the 9 stack is that there is NO sifter... I won't lie, I've spilled and tipped over a couple [look at that white colored looking one]. The way I would apply the 9 stack eyeshadow is I would open to desired color, and then lay the other end upside down. I'll dip my eyeshadow brush in there, and swirl and tap the excess on the underside of the upside down portion, and apply. Original price was $70, but you can haggle him down to about $40 :]

Swatches:

Bella Terra Cosmetics does make other things such as mineral foundation, blushes, bronzers, primers, etc... But the price is a huge turn off for me, so I have not had the chance to try the other stuff yet. You can purchase their items on their website, on eBay, and also little kiosks at different malls. I just wanted to share my first love for mineral eyeshadow :]

Here are 2 of my favorite eye looks with these colors, as always, you can click on the pictures to enlarge.

Have you used mineral makeup? What are your thoughts on it?

  14. I SOOO LOVE the fact that you pointed out how the make-up is made. It's a little disheartening when I was researching reviews about these products (trying to figure out if they are worth it–and they are!), and most people were ignoring the fact that these products are cruelty free :'(

Thanks again for the review. You now have an avid follower in me!
    LOL more like a crusader...
